According to one German au pair agency, more and more families are waking up to the advantages of hiring a senior citizen nanny to look after their children with demand for older nannies growing across Germany and other parts of the world.
While the majority of au pairs available for hire tend to fall into the age bracket of 18-24 years and have applied for the job to earn money during a gap year, or as an opportunity to live in a foreign country, it seems the tide is turning for these younger nannies as they are being increasingly passed over for older models.
The life experience which senior citizen nannies offer and their ability to discipline children effectively has helped the granny au pairs gain a foothold in the nanny hire industry. Demand seems to be growing for older au pairs in Germany where one company has been set up especially to offer this type of service.
