Avis streamline car hire market with app launch

Car hire and technology is a marriage that many firms have proven the beauty of with companies like Uber, Limo Broker and Addison Lee all claiming to ‘reinvent’ the market through forward-thinking tech.

The latest tech injection comes from Avis, best known for offering international car hire to tourists throughout Europe. Having launched their new app they claim to have eliminated the nightmares that hiring a car abroad so infamously brings.

“We’re re-engineering of entire rental process,” Avis CEO Larry DeShon told on Tuesday.

A 10-year Avis veteran, DeShon took on the CEO role in January of this year. Since assuming the position he’s been pretty busy working on his new generation ideas.

“We’re looking at all opportunities to leverage technology,” he continued.

Targeting the younger generation

With the huge shift to tech-based products Avis CMO Scott Deaver has put a lot of focus in attracting a younger audience.

“This is the way millennials expect to transact,” said Deaver.

The new tech launch marks a complete shift in the way people book car rentals, claiming to handle the whole process start to finish. Having today been made available on Apple’s App Store and Google Play the firm expects an increase in users as well as profits, progressing words of optimism throughout the press.

What can the app actually do?

From what we can see the application handles booking and payment processes, including the following functions:

  • register with Avis
  • use the Avis Now app to book rental cars
  • receive notifications
  • change car selections
  • find the car in the lot and unlock it.

Prom dress hire business transformed into leading boutique

A recent university graduate from Swansea University has succeeded in turning her online dress hire business into a leading fashion boutique specialising in glamorous ball gowns for proms and beauty pageants, less than a year after launching her company.

25-year-old Kylie Hearne graduated from University after completing her degree in Classical Civilisation, however like many recent graduates, Kylie found it difficult to secure employment in the current economic climate. Undeterred, the enterprising youngster came up with the idea of launching her own dress rental business online after struggling to find a ball gown within her budget.

Last May the Stardust Boutique was launched, thanks to a £800 loan from the 25-year-old’s partner, Kylie invested in 10 gowns which she offered for hire through her website, with all of her profits being put straight back into the business, the graduate explained in a recent interview with a Welsh newspaper. The entrepreneur also succeeded in securing a start-up grant to help develop her dress rental and boutique business further.

Now, less than a year after starting her business online, Kylie has opened her own shop selling a wide range of glamorous and glitzy prom dresses and occasion wear, with items also available to buy online. The boutique owner has succeeded in promoting her brand through sponsorship of beauty pageants and also charitable causes.

After launching her business as a dress hire provider with just 10 dresses and a single clothes rail borrowed from her mother, the Swansea University graduate has succeeded in turning her venture into a thriving business, turning over more than £50,000 – not bad for a girl who didn’t even own a mannequin to display her dresses less than 12 months ago!

Prop and Costume Hire offered via website from Norwich Theatre Royal

The Norwich Theatre Royal will offer budding thespians and amateur dramatic groups the chance to hire the actual costumes and props used in their own pantomimes thanks to a brand new website established by the theatre.

Although Norwich Theatre Royal has always offered it props and costumes for hire, there wasn’t a great deal of awareness of the service. However with the launch of the brand new website listing the huge range of items available to rent, including good quality images and sizing guides, the theatre hopes its hire service will come to the attention of more potential customers.

Currently available to hire via the new website are props and costumes from the pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, with the 8 foot inflatable beanstalk itself being made available for rent, plus items from the panto, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs which previously played at the Theatre.

In addition, the theatre staff say the costumes and props from the pantomime Sleeping Beauty are due to be added to the website’s listings very soon.

All of the costumes available for hire were created in-house by the team at the Norwich Theatre Royal and were made to measure for the actors wearing the items. Accessories such as hats and shoes and other extras are also available to hire along with the panto costumes to complete the required looks.
