Prom dress hire business transformed into leading boutique

A recent university graduate from Swansea University has succeeded in turning her online dress hire business into a leading fashion boutique specialising in glamorous ball gowns for proms and beauty pageants, less than a year after launching her company.

25-year-old Kylie Hearne graduated from University after completing her degree in Classical Civilisation, however like many recent graduates, Kylie found it difficult to secure employment in the current economic climate. Undeterred, the enterprising youngster came up with the idea of launching her own dress rental business online after struggling to find a ball gown within her budget.

Last May the Stardust Boutique was launched, thanks to a £800 loan from the 25-year-old’s partner, Kylie invested in 10 gowns which she offered for hire through her website, with all of her profits being put straight back into the business, the graduate explained in a recent interview with a Welsh newspaper. The entrepreneur also succeeded in securing a start-up grant to help develop her dress rental and boutique business further.

Now, less than a year after starting her business online, Kylie has opened her own shop selling a wide range of glamorous and glitzy prom dresses and occasion wear, with items also available to buy online. The boutique owner has succeeded in promoting her brand through sponsorship of beauty pageants and also charitable causes.

After launching her business as a dress hire provider with just 10 dresses and a single clothes rail borrowed from her mother, the Swansea University graduate has succeeded in turning her venture into a thriving business, turning over more than £50,000 – not bad for a girl who didn’t even own a mannequin to display her dresses less than 12 months ago!
