Vancouver welcomes the Daimler car2go vehicle rental scheme to the city this week.
The North American city will be one of the first to offer the new car2go system which allows customer to hire a car by the hour. There are already a number of car sharing schemes on offer in Vancouver, however the new car hire service offers customers the freedom to hire cars for one way trips, which is something car2go competitors don’t currently provide.
Members of the car2go scheme can hire state of the art Smart cars for any length of period from 20 minutes to a week or more. The Smart cars can be collected from one hire location, and dropped off at another, as long as the end destination is within the car2go hire area.
The launch of the new car sharing scheme comes offer the back of a successful trial of the car hire service in Vancouver last autumn. Car2go ran a pilot service through companies and not for profit organisations in the city last year which proved highly successful.
The popularity of car sharing schemes is reported to be growing as many turn their backs on car ownership as they see it as an unnecessary expense. Given this, the current climate is very encouraging for a new car hire scheme such as the one offered by Daimler’s car2go service.
