Car hire survey finds drivers putting off car checks due to cost
A survey by leading car hire comparison website, Carrentals.co.uk, has uncovered a worrying trend amongst drivers in the UK who are delaying vital car maintenance checks as they can’t afford to have these services carried out.
The Carrentals.com poll questioned 2,300 drivers as part of its research and found that 1 in 3 drivers have delayed servicing their car, and 1 in 5 have out off changing bald tyres, all because they fear the bill they’ll be handed for doing so.
With the cost of motoring rising year on year, drivers are looking for ways to keep their spending down, with 1 in 10 of those questioned as part of the survey revealing that they’ve changed their insurance from a comprehensive policy to third party fire and theft to save money, while 1 in 3 have gone as far as buying a cheaper car to further reduce their motoring expenditure.
As winter starts to bite, its’ sensible to give your car the once over, however 60% of drivers who took part in the study said they don’t have their tyres checked before the cold winter months get underway, and 80% don’t get their brakes checked.
Delaying vital car maintenance checks, especially during the winter months when drivers are more likely to encounter treacherous driving conditions, is especially worrying as these motorists are putting themselves and other road users in unnecessary danger.
The survey highlights the fact that all drivers are looking to reduce their spending, however motoring experts advise drivers to only make safe cut backs, and not through compromising your own and other roads users’ safety.
