Leading car rental firm, Hertz, have unveiled plans to trial an all-electric powered bus to transport its customers between the airport and their car rental centre at Los Angeles Airport.
The e-BUS-12 from BYD is the model chosen for the Hertz trial and will signal the first time the car rental provider has used an all-electric powered vehicle on one of its busiest routes.
The ultra green coach offers a range of 155 miles on a single charge, and will save the car rental operator $76 a day as a result of reduced fuel costs, while helping Hertz to reduce their CO2 emissions by 320kg per 150 miles. The zero-emission bus also offer benefits from reduced operating costs saving Hertz up to third compared to the cost of running fuel powered vehicles on the same route.
The electric bus has been specially designed with the Hertz car hire customers in mind, with low floors and spacious interiors to make it easier for passengers boarding and disembarking the bus with luggage. In addition the electric bus will feature a custom created sound insulated interior which will hopefully lead to a quieter cabin and a more enjoyable experience for those travelling onboard.
Hertz say they plan to trial the new bus shuttle service on the LAX Airport route and collect data from the journeys to help improve the service before it’s introduced in other areas.
