A car which was parked with its engine running and keys in the ignition was stolen from outside a car rental centre on Monday afternoon in Mesa, Arizona.
A 40-year-old man was arrested after the owner of the car which was stolen from the car hire centre put out an alert to police. When apprehended by the police on suspicion of taking a motor vehicle, David Michelle Williams told authorities he had made off in the car as he was “tired of walking.”
The car was stolen from outside of the Enterprise rent-a-car centre in Mesa, Arizona. The victim was walking back to the car, which he’d left with the keys in the ignition and engine running outside of the car hire centre, when he saw the thief hop inside and make off in the car.
The victim managed to catch up with the stolen car at a red light, and opened the passenger door to get a good look at the driver. After a police alert was put out, a nearby patrol car spotted the stolen vehicle, and when the officer attempted to pull the car over, the driver made off on foot.
The driver has since been apprehended and the car’s owner positively identified the driver in an ID parade.
