Skip hire boss makes final journey on one of his own lorries

A popular skip hire boss from Dorset made his final journey on the back of one of his own lorries more typically used to transport the skips he offered for hire as part of his business.

John “Butch” Nash was described as a legend in the town of Portland in Dorset where he lived and his company was based. It was only fitting, therefore, for the 64-year-old to take a final tour of the town he loved so much before being finally laid to rest.

Butch, as he was known to many, died following a battle with cancer. One of his last requests was for one of his skip hire lorries to transport him as he made his way through Portland for the very last time. The skip hire lorry was decked out with flower wreaths and the banner “John ‘Butch’ Nash – off for a doss- 1947-2011” hung over the back of the vehicle.

The skip hire company founder was a well-known figure in the town having previously acted as a councilor, and he even has a stand named after him at the local football club.

Portland Stone Ltd was founded by Mr. Nash in 1997, specializing in waste management, stones supplies as well as skip hire and machinery rental services. His son, 25-year-old Danny Nash, will now take over the running of the business.
