Where we are passionate to share the wonderful news of the hire market every now and then we are presented with stories of sadness, people using the rental market to execute unlawful plans. The biggest example of this was no doubt the recent terrorist attack in Nice, France. Taking the lives of 84 innocent civilians the attack marks the latest of a string of terrorist movement, one that will keep the country on red alert for the coming months.

Taking place on Thursday of last week the protagonist of this sickening plot was Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a man with a clear, murderous plan in tact.

Renting the ‘weapon’

Branded as ‘sick and twisted’ the Islamic state supporter requested the “heaviest and most powerful” vehicle available while plotting the attack.

The manager of Via Location said she rented out the 19-tonne truck to Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, claiming he wanted “to create the maximum number of victims”.

She added: “We only rent out lorries here, not weapons, not Kalashnikovs. We are all very shocked. We all live in Nice and are thinking of the families.”

Progressing pretty distinctive memories of the hire purchase we cannot help but think questions should have been raised during the quote stage, with the killer evidently requiring the vehicle for suspicious purposes.

The Daily Mail reports that:

‘The 31-year-old Tunisian killer, Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel , drove at the crowd in the Riviera city on Thursday night, zig-zagging along the seafront Promenade des Anglais for two kilometres as a fireworks display marking the French national day ended, until police eventually shot him dead.’

All executed through the ability to hire such a vehicle do you think better due diligence should have been undertaken? Please leave your thoughts below.
