A new cycle hire scheme launched in Stoke-on-Trent will see residents hire the Brompton folding bicycles for their journey. The Bromptondock, an automated bike hire scheme, is the second of its kind to be launched this year and will now feature at the Stoke-on-Trent railway station. In association with Virgin Trains, the first Bromptondock was installed in Manchester Piccadilly station earlier in March.
In Stoke, the scheme will host 10 bikes up for hire with daily rates from £4 to an annual fee of £50 for frequent users. The secure cycle centre designed by Virgin Trains was created to respond to the rising trend of commuters using a cycle to complete the rest of their journey.
Station Manager for Stoke-on-Trent/Stafford Virgin Trains, Heather Hodkinson, said: “For Virgin Trains, Bromptondock offers a truly end-to-end transport solution in which the Brompton folding bike integrates into existing local and national networks of trains, trams and buses. This makes it attractive to our customers who also value the particular initiative we have taken at Stoke and Manchester. In addition, our partner provides a complete support service so we don’t have to set up that essential infrastructure.”
The Brompton bike is a national favourite with their folding bikes a regular feature on most train journeys. The high quality and compact nature of the bike makes it the ideal choice for cycle hire for commuters. Cycle hire, a rising trend within local governments across the country, is an attempt to encourage green travel and cut back on emissions.
For the commuter, this is the perfect vehicle hire. Not only does it promote green travel and is economical, Bromptondock will carry out all essential maintenance and servicing to ensure the commuter has nothing to worry about when picking up a Brompton cycle hire.
