Car rental provider, Hertz, have revealed the growing demand from their commercial customers for electric car hire. The leading car hire company say that they would need to increase their fleet from 50 electric cars to 2,000 or 3,000 cars in order to meet the growing demands of their corporate clients.
Hertz first introduced electric powered hire cars to their fleets in New York, Washington, San Francisco, and London a year ago, offering the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt and Smart Electric Drive as part of their electric powered car rental fleet.
The car hire giant added that although demand from customers hiring electric vehicles for leisure purposes was considerable, the demand from companies wanting to hire these types of vehicles for their employees was great.
For corporate clients, renting electric vehicles is an easy way for them to achieve their sustainable targets, plus the journeys they often need to make involve airport transfers and travel to hotels, both areas of which are likely to offer power charging spots where the vehicles can recharge.
Hertz say they hope the car manufacturers will allocate more green vehicles to the car hire industry in the coming months to enable them to keep up with the demand from corporate customers.
The car hire giant hope to launch electric powered fleets in a number of destinations over the coming year or more including Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzhen, China.
