Home improvements and garden retailer, B&Q, have launched a van hire scheme in conjunction with car hire giant Hertz.
The three year deal between B&Q and the car sharing arm of the car hire company, Connect Hertz, will enable customers to hire a van for short term trips from 137 stores across the UK. It is hoped the offer of van hire will enable B&Q customers to take home bulky purchases easily and conveniently.
The van hire initiative was piloted at 7 B&Q branches across the UK for 23 weeks before it was decided to launch the service full time nationwide. B&Q van hire costs from £14 an hour for travel within a 20 mile radius of the store, after which the costs goes up to 30p a mile.
The average cost of van hire in the UK is between £10 – £17 an hour, and so the service offered by B&Q is good value for money for customers looking for a convenient means by which to take home sizeable goods from the store.
To be eligible to hire a van from B&Q drivers must be over 21 years of age, they must hold a valid driver’s licence, and have a valid credit or debit card. Please see the main B&Q website for more information.
