Airbnb bosses have their say on Trump separation policy

President Donald Trump has yet again come under fire for the way he is running America, with his new family separation policy seeing politicians, celebrities and US residents pass comment on social media, television and various other platforms. Just this week, home rental giants, Airbnb, wanted to have their say on the way in which Trump was tackling immigration law, with the brand’s founders releasing a harsh rebuke on the policies he is working on. In a joint statement. Brian Chesky, Joe Gebbia, and Nathan Blecharczyk, brand Trump’s family separation policy as ‘heartless, cruel, and immoral’, being shared, retweeted and endorsed by hire industry spearheads across the globe.

While we have already read statements from firms such as Microsoft, never have we seen a rental brand be so clear about their political standing; a stance that Airbnb are by no means looking to sugarcoat.

“Ripping children from the arms of their parents is heartless, cruel, immoral and counter to American values of belonging,” the statement reads.

“The US government needs to stop this injustice and reunite these families. We are a better country than this” it continues.

But, this is not the first time Airbnb have gotten themselves involved in US politics. In 2017, Chesky offered free accommodation to refugees impacted by Trump’s seven-country immigration ban. Making a clear comment that they oppose his style, the brand also aired a television advert featuring the words “Let’s open doors, not build walls”, clearly stating that they were against the way in which Trump is handling the subject of immigration.

Sending direct messages of opposition on a regular basis, we at Anything for Hire would love to know what your thoughts are on Airbnb’s stance. Should private brands and businesspeople be making political comments of this nature? Or, should we have faith in the political powers that be? Leave your comments with us.
